We continue through the sermon series #hollyacts this summer. It has been a great series looking at what it means to follow Jesus. It has been great too knowing that several churches have come together, seeking to be the church and to follow Jesus….TOGETHER.
Be devoted in prayer.
Listen, really listen.
Engage, connect with, those around you.
These were the areas of focus our first three weeks.
This last Sunday we focused on serving. Here in Acts 2 we are reminded of such focus on others, serving one another.
2 The believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the community, to their shared meals, and to their prayers. 43 A sense of awe came over everyone. God performed many wonders and signs through the apostles. 44 All the believers were united and shared everything. 45 They would sell pieces of property and possessions and distribute the proceeds to everyone who needed them. 46 Every day, they met together in the temple and ate in their homes. They shared food with gladness and simplicity. 47 They praised God and demonstrated God’s goodness to everyone. The Lord added daily to the community those who were being saved.
Late Sunday afternoon I got a call from my wife saying that we did not have any water. Turns out that our well pump died. So we had no water.
I can attest that we started this week off on the receiving side of #hollyacts – serve. It was wonderful to have friends and neighbors be there for you, willing to do whatever was necessary to help. It was great to have people in our community skilled at fixing this problem too.
Yes, we now have water!
The early followers of Jesus Christ lived in such a way, served one another in such a way, that people looked at their living and said, “I want to be part of that community.”
So the question for all of us, are we living, serving, in such a way that people look at our lives and say, “I want to be part of that community.”
Blessings,
Pastor Matt
