Well, I guess. I did get a phone call today. However, it was a wrong number.
Where is this going?
For years, the idea of being “called” meant that you were going to be a pastor. If God is at work in your life, well then, you better go to seminary and be a pastor. You better hurry up and get “your own” church to pastor.
However, I do not believe this to be true. It may even be a little backwards.
Sure, God calls some people to become pastors. These pastors are not the only ones called by God. Instead, these pastors are to help equip and empower other followers of Jesus Christ so that God can work in their lives too:
11 He gave some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. 12 His purpose was to equip God’s people for the work of serving and building up the body of Christ 13 until we all reach the unity of faith and knowledge of God’s Son. God’s goal is for us to become mature adults—to be fully grown, measured by the standard of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4)
All Christians are called by God to be part of His work. All Christians are called to be involved in ministry. All Christians are called to serve and to give. All Christians are called to grow and mature in their faith.
Do you know your “calling”?
We are starting a new sermon series this Sunday, March 5, 2017. We are going to look at several people found in the Bible. We are going to see how God was at work in their lives. This will help us see how God is at work in our lives too. God is at work. He is calling. Yes, He is even calling you.
