A Christmas Story

Do you watch the movie A Christmas Story every year? Do you have a favorite part? Maybe it is Ralphie asking for the Red Ryder BB gun. Maybe it is the Christmas dinner adventure. Maybe it involves tongues and a frozen pole.

It brings joy to watch it, and that is why many return to it every year.

Through December, we have been talking about “The” Christmas story. You likely know many of the parts of this story too. You have Mary, Joseph and of course, Jesus. You have the shepherds, angels and wise men. You have the inn that has no more room.

It brings joy to hear it, and that is why we return to it every year.

Here is where we need to be careful. “The” Christmas story is much more than a story to turn to every year and be entertained by. No, this Christmas story is a story that you are actually part of!

Jesus came because He loves you. When you know His love, He wants us to share His love. When we share His love, guess what? You are part of the Christmas story!

I am reminded of the hymn, “Love Came Down at Christmas” written by Christina Rossettie in 1885. Here are the first and last stanzas:

Love came down at Christmas,
love all lovely, Love divine;
Love was born at Christmas;
star and angels gave the sign.

Love shall be our token,
love be yours and love be mine;
love to God and others,
love for plea and gift and sign.

You are loved, and everytime you share His love, you are part of the Christmas story!

Blessings,
Pastor Matt
